The pattern is available for any of the types of rugs sold; spiral, triple spiral, log cabins, stripes, tesselations, and so forth. Each pattern has the instructions for ONE (1) of these styles of rugs. (I am writing a book that will contain instructions for all of the rugs made so far; that book is not finished yet. If you have already purchased a pattern, I will let you know when the book is available and discount the price of the book by the price you paid for the pattern. Would like to think the book will be done by the end of January, 2009, but I am not taking pre-orders at this time.)
The pattern also contains information about where to find the raw material for the rugs and how to process and slice clothing into rug fiber. The pattern includes color pictures of most of the rugs I've made in that style; the pictures may inspire your own design. The entire pattern runs to about 10-15 pages.
The pattern does NOT contain ANY information about how to cast on, off, or knit. The rugs are all knit in garter stitch (knit across on front and back side). They require increases and decreases, and the spirals require short rows. Many other books about knitting contain the how-to information.
When you buy the pattern, please send me an email telling me which type of rug you would like. If you're not sure which type to ask for, tell me which rug made you think about knitting one of your own, and I'll confirm by email.
So far, most pattern buyers have been happy with the purchase. One was disappointed that she only received the pattern for one type of rug (rather than a book containing all the patterns) and I have revised this description to avoid that disappointment. At least one buyer received the pattern, realized she would probably never acquire and process all the fiber needed, and came back to my store to buy the rug she wanted in the first place.
