Handel Macaw Chipped Ice Shade Hanging Lamp 1920s. A Superb original and authentic Handel hanging light fixture with a 10 inch diameter glass shade decorated on the exterior with a chipped ice iridescent ground and with a Blue Macaw Parrot on both sides surrounded with flowers, foliage and branches, simply gorgeous. The Chipped Ice and metallic luster finish on the ground was in itself a very complex technique, not to mention the beautiful Parrot and foreground. The shade was most probably designed and decorated under the charge of Albert Parlow, Handel’s prolific designer whose work was and is much sought after. The shade has its original bronzed metal fittings including the signed Hubbell Company socket and wiring. The sockets were the only components of the fixture not manufactured in house. A picture of this hanging lamp with fittings is featured on page 122 of “The Handel Lamps Book” by Carole Goldman Hibel, John Hibel and John Fontaine, copyright 1999. Shade and fittings are not signed or numbered as is stated in the book, we have had the lamp looked at by an expert and confirmed that all is completely original and authentic and we guarantee it to be as such. All is in excellent condition, the shade has a few minuscule fleabites on the fitter rims, this is mentioned for accuracy only and is completely irrelevant, most probably present when manufactured. The total drop of the fitting is 32 inches. The original wiring is frayed in one place, we accept no responsibility whatsoever for its safety and suggest it should be rewired by a professional.
