Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
by JK Rowling
Scholastic. 1998. First Edition, Sixth Printing. Another neat copy.
Book: VERY GOOD. Red quarter cloth over plain purple paper boards - an interesting variant of the usually seen diamond patterned boards (see pictures). Rear board has some darkening that I noted in the picture above by slanting the book to the light - it is not moisture and does not appear mirrored on the dustjacket. The boards show a fair amount of shelf wear, but the corners are sharp. Spine has no year numeral and shows the author's Last Name "Rowling" as opposed to the earlier printings with "J.K. Rowling" . Binding square and tight - although the book shows that it has been read. Pages crisp and clean inside, with just a hint of thumbing to the fore edge of textblock. Previous owners name to front endpaper along with grade level indications - a juvenile provenance.
Dust Jacket: VERY GOOD. Original price of $16.95 to inside flap of dust jacket. Clean and bright with light edge wear. A tiny chip out of the rear bottom flap crease. Vertical crease along the spine of the DJ. Publisher's Weekly blurb and 51695 over the barcode. No year numeral on the spine, only the author's last name "Rowling". In archival mylar cover.

| | Publisher's Note | What did Harry Potter know about magic? He was stuck with the decidedly un-magical Dursleys, who hated him. He slept in a closet and ate their leftovers. But an owl messenger changes all that, with an invitation to attend the Hogwarts School for Wizards and Witches, where it turns out Harry is already famous.. . . Full color.
| | Industry reviews | "Readers may think at first that they have stumbled into a new Roald Dahl book....This amusing adventure will have fantasy lovers waiting impatiently for the promised sequel." Book - Kathleen Odean
"On the whole, 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone' is as funny, moving and impressive as the story behind it. J.K. Rowling, a teacher by training, was a 30-year-old single mother living on welfare in a cold one-bedroom flat in Edinburgh when she began writing it in longhand during her baby daughter's nap times. But like Harry Potter, she had wizardry inside, and has soared beyond her modest Muggle surroundings to achieve something quite special." New York Times - Michael Winerip (02/14/1999)
"This hugely enjoyable fantasy is filled with imaginative details, from oddly flavored jelly beans to dragons' eggs hatched on the hearth. It's slanted toward action-oriented readers, who will find that Briticisms meld with all the other wonders of magic school." Kahlenberg
