This auction is for a porcelain Herend Crescent Salad Plate in the lovely Market Garden pattern. The elegant half moon shaped plate is hand painted with fancy lattice work designs in the porcelain and is beautifully trimmed in 24K gold.
Any white marks are from glare or reflection - they are not flaws.
Market Garden was first introduced in the 1850s. The pattern is now retired but I cannot find much information as to the date that production stopped but one source says 1987. It is a very difficult pattern to find.
A Crescent Salad Plate in currently active Herend patterns has a retail value of $110 - $220 depending upon the intricacy of the pattern.
Each Herend Market Garden plate is a hand painted work of art. Each is different dependent upon the artist's choice of the over 2 dozen motives used on Market Garden pieces. It was the master painter's decision as to which motifs to use on an individual "blank". Consequently, no two pieces are ever alike.
