Time-Life Publishing has done wonders for us all in it's publications of books, movies and music over the years, giving us an opportunity to preserve the past in ways we never would have had otherwise.   In these six wonderful reproductions of the retelling of the War Between the States from very different perspectives, The Civil War comes to life for today's public, giving us a chance to understand that awful war like we never have before.  The books that I am offering are BEAUTIFULLY LEATHER BOUND for preservation and to look good in your collection, with golden edged paper.  Each book in this six book collection from the Collector's Library of the Civil War, has been photographically reproduced from a first edition and thus preserves the historical autenticity of the original, including typographical errors and printing irregularities.

First up is  "Reminiscences of the Civil War"  by the Confederate General, John B. Gordon.  Gen. Gordon was one of the leaders of the Army of Northern Virginia, mostly coonskin capped fighters who fought in many major battles.  By the end of the war, he commanded half of the Confederate Army.  Prior to the war, Gordon was an attorney and one of the most famous men in the south before and after the war.  His accounts of the war will give you a new perspective on most of the facts presented in history classes.  This novel was reproduced in 1981 from the original 1903 novel.

Second is "The Narrative of a Blockade Runner" by John Wilkinson.  Wilkinson  was a United States Navy Lieutenant who resigned his commission when the war began and enlisted in the Confederate Navy, commanding one of the famous ironclad ships that ran naval blockades and led raids to free prisoners of war from the Northern armies.  This novel, first published in 1877 will make you feel like you were there during his exploits.

"Mosby's Rangers" by James J. Williamson from the 1896 original, tells the story of the 43rd Battalion Virginia Calvary, Mosby's Raiders, known to the Northern forces as "bushwackers", "guerrilas" or "freebooters".  The leader of the rangers was Colonel John Singleton Mosby, a lawyer turned soldier, whose daring forays earned him the nickname Gray Ghost Of The Confederacy.    His raiders' tales are told here by James Williamson, one of the members of this daring band.   This classic war novel tells of many of the Raiders' exploits and you will enjoy it immensely.

Next, "Campaigning With Grant", by Horace Porter, from the 1897 first edition, tells us the exploits of the future President, then leader of the Union Army from April of 1864 to the end of the war.  Porter joined Grant as a Lieutenant Colonel and proved to be General Grant's most able staff officer for the rest of the war.  Inside you will find a wartime photograph that shows a properly mustached and goateed officer with the grim look of the soldier he delighted in being.

Lastly are the two classic war accounts by John B. Jones, "A Rebel War Clerk's Diary", Vol I and Vol II.  Both were first editions in 1866 and wonderfully copied and reproduced here.   These were the first personal narratives of consequence published after the war, and even today, they rate among the top dozen printed primary sources on government and politics in the South as the Confederate States of America.  John B. Jones never left Richmond, Virginia the entire war, and his diary accounts for the events each day during that time period.  He not only points out the significant events, he relates them to the South's government and even keeps a log of weather changes and their effects on operations.  This book will guide you accurately through your Civil War studies.
