This is a vintage Holton Galaxy cornet. It is in pretty good shape for its age. (I would guess that it is from the late 60's or early 70's but I don't know for sure.) The silver lacquer is in about 80% condition. All the slides move, but the main tuning slide needs greased. The valves are in excellent condition with no plating loss and perfect compression. At some point it has had a patch installed on the leadpipe. There is also a wrinkle in the bell and a small dent in the bell near the valve section. None of these issues really seem to affect its playability. It also appears as if there was a third slide stop mechanism at some point, but it is missing. Honestly when I played it I was very surprised at how nicely it plays. The tone quality is very mellow and dark. I really considered a complete restoration on this one, but I just can't afford that right now and have too many instruments. I would rather see it in a good home where it will be played more. With a little TLC this could be a very nice instrument for either a student or a pro. Serial number is 349392. Maybe you can use that to determine its exact age. The original case is included as is an old 7C mouthpiece. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.
I took some time on Monday to work on cleaning this instrument. After a thorough cleaning inside and out, I was amazed at how much BETTER IT LOOKS AND PLAYS. The original pics that I posted really no longer do this instrument justice. You will not be disappointed when you receive it.
