This Auction: Page (Map) No. 16: Shaw East, O Street Market A Full Size, High Quality Poster Print, Scanned Full Size from the Original ! 1887 Griffith M. Hopkins Map Washington, DC A Complete Set of Surveys and Plats of Properties in the City of Washington Published by the Author and Proprietor G.M. Hopkins, C.E. 320 Walnut Street, Philadelphia Engraved by Walter S. MacCormac 1887 I'm selling full size, high quality, color prints produced from full size scans of my individual and original 1887 GM Hopkins Maps, with 44 maps in all that cover each and every corner of the present day boundaries of Washington, DC. These are high quality PRINTS of the original hand colored maps that were the first finely detailed maps produced of the city. They show many, many buildings long gone, many lot and house owner names from 1887, building addresses, lot sizes and back buildings (carriage houses, fuel sheds, etc), and even many wood frame houses on lots now occupied by Victorian townhouses. You've no doubt used the tiny, black and white, microfilmed versions with their many flaws, scratch lines, and small print outs, but now you can own a full size copy of the original that is ready to frame! These maps always bring lots of attention when and wherever I lecture in Washington on house history, and would be especially nice framed on your wall if your house falls on one of the many delineated city squares and blocks. I sold my duplicate original maps on eBay in March of 2007 that brought as much as $780 per map, but now you can afford to own a high quality print of each of the 44 maps that documented the city of Washington in 1887! SIZE: Each of the original map pages was an impressive two feet, seven and-one-half inches wide by one foot, ten-and-a-half inches tall (31.5 inches by 22.5 inches). They were scanned at 400 dpi at full size to produce a print the same size as the original. This Auction: Page (Map) No. 16: Shaw East, O Street Market

Map Pictures: I've included five
pictures taken from the original map that are large enough here to view
details. The matte finish of the completed print reflects a bit from my
flash, and thus is difficult to photograph close enough to show details; Map #9
has pictures of a typical print if your interested to see how they appear on
the over sized photographic paper; the posters are better in many ways than the
original; clean and bright! I also have a scan of a typical map key
(positioned on every map/page in a different place) as well. ******************************* Map Key: I've included a detailed scan of the Hopkins Map Key, which appears on each and every page of the Hopkins Maps (in difference places), along with a north arrow. It conveys the key to such features as road type (paved, cobblestone, wood, etc), type of building construction (brick, stone, or wood), and sewer lines, horse fountains, lamp boxes, PO boxes, and even ground springs, most of which are covered today. This map could explain all that ground water in your back yard! Not interested in this particular Map? Your print is now available! I've listed a total of 44 different prints that cover the entire present day city of Washington, DC. To assist you in narrowing down your map number, a brief description of each of the 44 map borders appear below, with a more detailed description of each map far below. determine on which map your Square resides, and then bid on that particular map. Some maps are live auctions, while others are in our store. Note that for areas outside the original boundaries of Washington, DC
(Florida Avenue today), including Georgetown, these maps had the old block
numbers of your particular subdivision or community. Pay attention to what side of the street your

cases. Email us, and I'll determine which map your house or building (or future site) would be on. Not sure of your Square Number? Go to https://www.taxpayerservicecenter.com/RP_Search.jsp?search_type=Assessment and put in your house number and street name in the yellow
