HOT 'N' NASTY is nicely programmed best-of. It's more or less split between the band's occasionally adventurous period with Peter Frampton, including the best cuts from the classic PERFORMANCE--ROCKIN' THE FILLMORE, and their more commercially successful incarnation as an extremely loud purveyor of the most basic blues-tinged rock.
Highlights include "Natural Born Woman" (adapted from Chuck Berry's "Little Queenie"), and "Four Day Creep" (written, unbeknownst to most of the band's fans, by jazz singer Ida Cox). The band's cover of Ashford and Simpson's "I Don't Need No Doctor" had a ubiquitous radio presence in the early '70s.
