Here is a very rare cir. 1922 era side logo 3 ¼” tall china creamer from the Len Roy Hotel that was located in New York City. I believe this was most likely from the first order (and possibly the only one) for the hotel’s opening under the new name. The Len Roy Hotel Co. was formed in 1922 after acquiring the St. Cloud Hotel Company’s Hotel that was known as the Athens Hotel. The Athens was a five-story hotel that was located at 56 East 42nd Street. By 1923, the Len Roy had undergone a major renovation complete with a cafeteria, downstairs shops, mezzanines, and fine appointments. In 1922, the hotel company was owned by G. A. Leonard, L.B. Larabee, and A. Shaughnessy. The hotel continued to feature the European Plan for its guest. However, I believe the Len Roy Hotel Co. was no longer in operation by the late 1920’s. This creamer would have been used in the hotel’s cafeteria / restaurant, dining room, or for room service in connection with the hotel’s silver soldered / silver plate for actual service. It is not a souvenir; rather, the heavyweight type railroad, steamship, and lunch counter type china. The creamer features the cursive wording “Len Roy” in a banner on the side of the creamer. The creamer does not have a backstamp, but I believe it possibly to be made by either Buffalo or O.P.Co – Syracuse China. This creamer specially marked for the Len Roy is very hard to come by and not much of this china survived over the years. The creamer is in excellent condition with only light usage. There is a small manufacturer’s fleabite on the bottom that was done at the time of manufacturing, but it does not distract from the creamer’s excellent appearance. A wonderful addition to your Hotel, teapot / pitcher / creamer, coffee pot, or New York collection and it is ready to display. As a geographical note, this pot would also go well with your Bronx, Queens, Rockaway, Central Park, Long Island, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Bayonne, Hyde Park, Yonkers, New Rochelle, White Plains, or Manhattan collection.
