Hotel Victory Put-in-Bay, Ohio

This postcard is titled "Hotel Victory Put-in-Bay, Ohio." It is a black and white card and was published by H. A. Herbster of Put-in-Bay, Ohio. On the reverse, it says it is from the Albertype Co. of Brooklyn, NY. Notice the trolley on the left side. Hotel Victory had over 600 rooms, but burned down in 1919. The card appears to be from some sort of souvenir book as the left edge is perforated. There is a number 8 next to the publisher's name in the lower left corner. Postally unused. Very good condition with no creases, folds or tears.  The card is not as grainy as the photo - an artifact of my scanner.  I would guess it to date from the 1910s.

Put-in-Bay is a popular destination for boaters and vacationers in Lake Erie, north of Port Clinton, Ohio. But it also has historical significance as it was the site of Commander Perry's decisive victory over the British in the War of 1812. Several of the postcards in this series capture that history.
