A Huge 1890s Blue and White Meat Platter, Flow Blue, "Louis" made by Burgess and Leigh, Burslem England in excellent Condition .99 cents, A collectors delight, a Must Have!
Here is another fascinating piece that Aussietreasures is pleased to offer you!!!
For all of you who collect the dainty blue and white china, here is a rare opportunity to own one, made in the 1890s!!! It is in excellent condition for its age. No chips, no cracks but for some staining, glaze crazing and wearing away of the gilding, which is reflective of its age and its use. What's more, we are offering it to you for just .99cents start, priced to sell to give you a chance to have it. Please check the picture, it forms part of our description.
This huge meat platter stands at 1.2 inches, a massive 14 inches in length and the width of 10.2 inches. It has the beautiful "Louis" design, made by Burgess and Leigh, Burslem England. Please check the logo as pictured. It says, "Louis" and in a square box, the words which looks to me as "RD Shp No 303496" and still inside that square box below that is "Rd DN No 301577". There is a letter "C" to the right of that box, reflective of the year of the manufacture which was a requirement for patenting and registration in those days. Just below the box "Royal Semi Porcelain" and the round logo with the words "Burgess and Leigh Burslem England". There is also impressed onto the base of this rare piece the words England and I can't work out what the words are on top of that(please check the photo).
As we are cleaning up, there will be lots more to post on Ebay. And usually going at a reasonable give away price. Here is a bit of background about your blue and white pattern collection which is known also as flow blue. Please click on the link or copy it to your browser, to see one I found on the net just to check the history of these items. I could not find the exact one, in the "Louis" pattern. We bought a few platters from a dear old lady who was moving to the nursing home and had kept this piece as they were handed down to her and she didn't really want to part with her old things. Bid with confidence, it is a genuine sale at .99cents!!!

Antique Flow Blue is a classic blue and white antique ware (antique semi-porcelain, antique stoneware, or antique porcelain) that was produced by a number of potters in the historic Staffordshire area of England. It was particularly popular from 1825 to the end of the century. When a piece of antique Flow Blue was fired in a kiln, a smudged or blurred effect was achieved on the antique pottery, varying from slight to so pronounced, that the pattern is almost indistinguishable. This was determined by the position of the item in the sagger (or protective casing) during the firing process of the antique Flow Blue, as the blue color bleeds or flows onto the white body of the piece. Manufactures of antique Flow Blue include, George Jones, W. H. Grindley, Davenport, Johnson Brothers, Lockhart & Arthur, T.J. & J. Mayer, Arthur Wilkinson, Argyle, Ford & Sons, W. & Y. Adams, R. & M. Co., W. & E. Corn, John Maddock & Sons, J. H. Weatherby & Sons, Doulton, S. W. Dean, Henry Alcock, Brown-Westhead, Moore & Co., Ford & Sons, Burgess & Leigh, Wood & Son, A. Meakin, Ridgeway & Morley, Ridgeways and New Wharf Pottery. These manufacturers' marks are always present on antique Flow Blue ware.
