This is rare surviving page rescued from a catalog, that was a Salesman Sample Catalog from the C. Read & Co. Baltimore, Md. This catalog was a wholesale catalog for the retail trade and therefore not available to the General Public. This page is the highly collectible and popular "Phoenix Ware China", or what they call, "Howa Blue Japanese China", which would have been made by the Noritake Company c1920s and later, but I think that this photo is more c1920s. It is a large glossy photo. So large in fact that I was unable to get the entire page on the scanner, but I did get the middle for the first scan which is most of the page, then I did the two halves to show that its all there, and then the back scan is just the detail of the photographer's attribution of the back of this page. The rest of the page is blank, so I just did a detail of the back of the page. The photo aspect measures approx. 11.5"x 9.5", with the entire page page measuring just over 13"x 9.5". The photo as can be seen is a glossy color period photo, mounted on the catalog brown linen type of paper. This photo has, normal expected wear, but was exposed to dampness, so has minor curling and some minor loss to the image area in specs here and there. So I am selling this item, completely as found". Please keep that in mind when bidding. I feel the scans are pretty accurate, plus I have described this item as best that I can. I consider this item in "acceptable" condition and the images of this period china are still pretty clear, and bold, with the identifying info there. This item may be of general interest to advertising collectors, or perhaps regional Baltimore collectors as the company for the catalog was there, but I would think that the primary collectors for this item, would be the people that collect this lovely, pattern of China. If this were properly matted and framed and hung above a nice collection of these pieces, I think it would be stunning, as well as historical. Since this is a page from rare salesman sample book, chances are that if you like a vintage example of this item, especially anytime soon, you will almost certainly need to get it here. I am pleased to offer this rare, appealing advertising photo for consideration. Check out my other items! I tend to like the old, unusual, scarce and possibly unique items. If this is your interest also, then check out my other listings. I do combine your winning auctions to save you money on shipping costs. Let me know if you want insurance. I do give "frequent flyers" breaks. I DO NOT sell to Poland or Spain. The mail is too slow and complaints are too high, mail delivery rates have been 1-2 months!. Postcards are shipped in cardboard and rigid plastic sleeves to protect from damage, I DO NOT profit from postage. The postage cost for outside the US is $3.00 for postcards in the rigid protector. Please inquire regarding postage rates for other items outside of the US. Thanks, Bob, Roger ** Please use the email rmiller2@stny.rr.com for payment to paypal. ![]() |
