I found this interesting history.
After World War II, between 1945 and 1949, Britain, France, Russia and the United States divided Germany into 4 sections. The U.S. Zone in this divided Germany encompassed the areas of Bavaria, Bremen, Hesse & Greater Hesse and Wurttemberg-Baden.
The Hutschenreuther porcelain makers were located in Bavaria. The Hutschenreuther family began making fine porcelain in 1814 in Northern Bavaria. After a couple of generations, the family had established German porcelain as some of the finest of European porcelain. The LHS actually stands for Lorenz Hutschenreuther of Selb, one of the originator's sons who had opened his own factory with his brother Christian after learning their trade from their father Carl.
The Hutschenreuther "Mark of the Lion" is a long-lasting symbol of excellence that still exists today though the company is now under the Rosenthal name.
