ICON Model 16 hydraulic pull-type grader scraper/blade, less than 1 yr old and used very little. Bought new from CAT dealer and used for a landscaping job. We've had three of these blades over the years and replaced our CAT motorgrader with one of these after running the first one.
These are heavy duty blades built to handle up to 250hp tractors. They work as a precision, finish grading tool, or a deep cutting angle blade, or a large capacity box scraper. We've built roads, ditches, leveled, smoothed, laid asphalt, and graded gravel with them.
We used 105hp on this one as we were just doing finish grading. Others I have had/run we did heavy work with and they will outperform motor-graders in many applications. Figure 100hp for grading gravel, yards, or existing roads, and 150hp-250hp for deep cutting and dirt moving. A CAT rubber track tractor is the perfect pull unit as they turn fast. Front wheel assist are also great, as are any 4 wheel drive tractors.
Tractor needs 3 hydraulic outlets to run the blade or you can fit electric splitter valves to run the 3 functions from one or two outlets. Comes with ISO couplers but can be switched to the older John Deere, etc..
Unit has hydraulic angle, tilt, and up-down controls that are fast, powerful, and accurate. They are run by the tractor hydraulic controls from the cab and the cylinder speed can be set on the tractor to move slow or fast. Angle changes fast enough to reverse the blade angle every time you turn around to make another pass. That is MUCH faster than backing up with a motorgrader. You have fingertip control for fine, on the go adjustment.
Unlike a motorgrader, the Icon's tall moldboard will move heavy black dirt, sod, or loose material without the plugging under the turn-table that motorgraders deal with. The blade angles enough to move any material down the moldboard. End plates can be dropped turning it into a 'box-scraper' that will move a lot of dirt like a scraper, or the ends can be run up making it an excellent angle blade for grading.
This blade is invaluable to a farm or dirt contractor with a farm tractor in the fleet. We set one up with a laser for finish grading and it worked great.
The rear of the bade comes weighted to allow it to cut hard ground and hold it's depth. The weight and heavy hydraulic cylinders give it positive cutting action in any ground.
It pulls down the road easily at tractor speeds and can even be pulled or moved with a pickup at slightly higher speeds.
The cutting edge is replaceable, and this unit comes with one replacement blade.
Very simple operation, virtually no maintenance or upkeep, only greasing a few points and keeping a good cutting edge on it. We have never worn a cutting edge out on the different blades we've run.
This is the ultimate 'farm' scraper/grader and will clean or build ditches, terraces, clean feed lots, or build and grade roads easily. We used them every year to repair rain damage, gullies, washes, etc.
Contractors will like them for their economical cost doing rough or finish grading behind scrapers or maintaining haul roads. Most contractors have a farm tractor they disc or pull packers with and this blade gives that tractor another use.
Sold by CAT dealers, these blades sell as fast as they get them in. CAT handles service and parts if you need them, but they are a low, low maintenance machine.
Unit comes complete with all cylinders, hoses, and ISO hydraulic ends, ready to run. Currently still in use but available anytime. Our project is done and when we pave we can't use it anymore.
Blade comes complete, ready to run, with a very good cutting edge installed and a spare, new cutting edge included. All cylinders, hoses, tips, etc are furnished and installed. Blade has approximately 100hrs of use since new. 2007 model bought new last spring.
It can be hauled easily on a fifth wheel trailer as it angles enough to get down under 8'6'' width. We hauled it 800 miles when new.
