 ILLUMINATED VELLUM LEAF, WITH GOLD BLUSH AND FLORAL PATTERNS

 

General description

An unusual leaf from a late 15th century Book of Hours, probably ca. 1490, Paris, 16 lines. Magnificent detail and done on very fine vellum, brown ink, four-lines initial “O” (2.3:2.5 cm) in blue, red, white and Gold blush, three border strip with floral motifs, flowers extremely well executed. Verso with one border, with triangles and flowers, less ornamented than front but still very nicely executed. Form an important book of hours.
