IMCO Startline Duplex Roller Bag

I have worked my entire professional life in the ski and outdoor sport industry designing and developing products for the 2 top names in winter sports. Some anthropologist somewhere probably knows how may thousands of years ago the wheel was invented. The real mystery is why it took so long to build it in travel luggage. In particular, snowsport gear is not exactly light. But, for the better part of 20th century, riders and sliders where content to drag their stuff over their shoulders and through the snow.

To build the IMCO Startline Duplex Roller bag, we started with a sturdy wheel set. This is the frame around which the rest of the bag is built. It features dark grey urethane wheels with  bearings. You can also call them in-line skate wheels, but, far more of these wheels are being used for luggage these days than skates. We use a dark grey wheel because the clear ones look like you know what as they start to wear. The retractable handle is discreetly held in place by a velcro strap when not in use.

Duplex in the name means that this bag is built with 2 compartments. The lower PVC reinforced compartment will easily carry a pair of ski or snowboard boots with room to spare. I have personally used it to successfully carry some very fragile cargo including food and beverage home from frequent business trips to Europe. The larger top compartment is more than large enough to hold a weeks worth of clothes or ski togs for longer than that.

The webbing that makes up the carry handles is triple bar tacked where is connect to the bag. The same webbing continues past the second floor and connects to adjustable side release buckles. These serve and compression straps in case your bag is not 100% full. They also help protect the zipper which without would be exposed to 100% of the weight in the lower compartment.

I have traveled all over the world with one of these bags and a briefcase. It is a very simple design but sometimes that is what works the best. On the butt end just above the wheels, we have attached three bumper style feet. These help protect the material in an otherwise vulnerable area. They also help the bag stand on its own whilst you wait in line for the lighting fast airline agent to check in.
