This pedal is brand new and upgraded to (version 2) 0n 12 -10-06 .The upgrade included more gain thickness and sustain to the hot switch which my top players wanted. It still comes with no wear on the foot switch. If the footswitch goes because of it's life expendency your pedal is no good. Thats why I deal with new pedals. Less returns because of the foot switch failing. The pedal comes with a manual and a factory battery. It’s an unbelievable sounding unit and has a" Big Thick Tube sound" just like a boutique pedal .This pedal was also Knighted to kill any TS-9 modded or not.The TS-9 doesn't have the thickness or sustain this pedal has. Stuart Swanlund from the Marshall Tucker Band came to my house to try the pedal and then bought it.Stuart has been with the band since 1985 and is one of the lead guitar players. He does 155 shows a year. Some people say" Tube Screamers are mid-range heavy, and on stage you really need that midrange boost to cut through the mix . It's a proven fact. One thing the Tube Screamer is really good for is live performance. This pedal has 16 changes to it. It has the famed JRC 4558 chip and an overdrive hot switch for the Santana Type sustain. I tryed the texas chip and it doesn't sound any differant than the JRC 4558. I did homework on this. The led light has to be flat on this pedal or you will step on it and crush it.That is why I don't change it like I do on my other pedals.I can't find flat one's like they use. There are some guys using colored ones that stick above the pedal .Don't step on the pedal wrong. This pedal has no whimpy sound .I modded everthing to work for the JRC4558 chip.Thats tells you the JRC 4558 chip is working right. IT's very thick and will also do a great blues sound .I will give you the settings for that great sound. My mod is very succesful and you don't have to make any changes read it on Harmony Central.Click on this link http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Effects/product/Whizzer+Mods/TS7%2F808+mod/10/1 We put it up against two new Tube Screamers at Guitar Center, which was the TS9, and the new Tube Screamer Pro that lists for $170.00. This pedal sounded better ,louder and thicker. Ask any of the people that bought them. Check out my reviews on ebay also. We set the TS9 at 6, the Tube Screamer Pro at 6, and this pedal at 3 and it was the same volume as the TS9 and the Pro. This pedal is conditioned at 339 Hz where the TS9 and Pro is at 750Hz. It is better at 339 because it does the full spectrum of tone of a guitar. At 750Hz, it mostly does some bass and mostly midrange and highs. I do 14 mods on this pedal, which means 15 new parts that are upgraded to new values for this terrific sound that you are going to have. If you have noticed most of your TS9 and Tube Screamer Pros on the market have a buzzing sound to them on the overdrive. This pedal does not. It is smooth overdrive. I did the best I can on this pedal for all you guys out there so that you will have the best sound possible. I put a lot of time into these mods so you can compliment me on my work. You are almost getting the time for free because I want people to enjoy my modifications. This pedal was first modded to TS808 specs then upgraded because TS808s really never sounded good. All the so called modders use a 10k and a 100 ohm carbon comp resistor. I disagree thats why the old pedals sounded thin and harsh. When you are Whizzer you know the 10k is right but the 100 ohm is wrong and you guys have to do more testing so get great equipment like I have and learn to use an ocilloscope and watch the flat lines .Take more time and don't believe resistor and capacitor values you get off the internet. I had two 1979-808's I sold both of them because they didn't sound very good compared to other pedals out there. I laugh when I see 1979 TS9s selling for $450.00 on E-bay. You can get this TS-7 pedal a lot cheaper and I guaranty that it will sound better and louder than any of the TS-808 or the TS-9. The reason for louder, I keep stressing that is because with no gain turned on , the level control of this pedal should overdrive your tube amp into power amp overdrive and then you will have a the most sought after sound. Here is a list of some of the mods that you hear in the jargon of tech talk that I did to this unit: richer, smoother, saturation sustain mod, more hi-fi tone, brown mod, White Mod to remove the buzzy overdrive, smoother highs and lows, 427 mod to take out the shrill treble all tube screamers have, 389 mod makes the pedal louder, 283 mod = audio grade parts, 265 clean boost mod. To give you a brief description of myself, I am trying to develop a name so I try hard not to get any returns and you have a keeper. I have been modding and building tube amps for 25 years and I am well noted in my area. I don't build Tube amps anymore and only mod them for guys in my area..I have done a lot of work for some of the best musicians in the area. I started modding pedals when everybody else started doing them .My intention was to make the musician happy. I am also a De Vry graduate of electronics with a masters degree thats why I make sure the values are right.I work in a Hospital as electrician/ electronics head of the department which I have worked for 25 yrs.I am also a musician that plays in a band with an ear for sound. This TS7 can be put up against the best of all the 808 mods and blow them away.I am proud of my work and it's not too expensive if you don't like send it back. You pay the shipping back.Read my Feedback on these pedals. Read shipping instructions and return policys.Thank you !!!
Bill, got the TS-7, love it. You need to let 12 string players know that it thickens things upand adds a warm presense when put in line after a compressor (I use a JangleBox). I was amazed.. Pretty cool how they work together. But I have to say if I could only have one, it would be the TS-7. I was never much of a pedal guy, but you've converted me. I'll be putting the word out and look for a review in HarmonyCentral. It's been a real pleasure doing business with you. Thanks, Pat from Seattle. - pupdadee
