Very rare, original engraving of William Tylee Ranney's, "The Trapper's Last Shot", circa 1850. It shows a frontiersman on horseback, gripping his cocked rifle with both hands, a look of fear on his face, turning around to see a Native American on horseback coming towards him. The image is crisp, it is in good condition, a few minor nibbles on the far right handside margin, just on the margin! No water stains or heavy foxing, size is 23.75" x 18.25", signed to the back of the saddle "W. Ranney-50" and printed far lower left; "painted by W. Ranney". A very rare and important engraving by William Tylee Ranney circa 1850.
