One accepted rule in the scientific community is that over 95% of all our pains are muscular in origin. It is well documented that for traumatic pain a mixture of cold and hot treatment is the best treatment. As soon as possible following trauma, you should apply a cold pack or a cold compress to the tender spot several times a day for up to 20 minutes.
