Bidding has ended on this item. Item:Interesting 1849 Large Cent - Old Gilt - Fake gold?? |

This is a great curiosity piece. Why someone would color a nice 1849 Large Cent gold is the question. Could some people have been that naive and illiterate to be able to pass this off as a gold piece? Maybe the date of 1849 holds the key.....ah the 49'ers....I talked to a couple of large cent collectors, and nobody could come up with a reason, so since I don't collect these, I am starting the auction at 99 cents and see where it goes. See the scans for details, but remember the coin looks better in hand, and the gold is a real nice gold....it has not been worn off the edges as much as the higher points of the devices. This would make an interesting addition to a number of collections....large cent, possible fake gold attempt...pretty cool coin. Good luck bidding and there is a 14 day return option minus the 3 dollars shipping (5 international), which can be combined for other items I'm selling...check em out! Thanks for looking!! Steve
