"Taranis"

 

 

Hand crafted in ireland by Rovada. Gold plated case, quartz movement, dustproof construction, Braided green leather band. Gold etched Celtic design dial on a green background. It is new, comes in a presentation case (shown below) and a one year gaurantee. 

Irish Retail Value: 80 euros

Dimensions: 8" strap, 1 1/8" diameter of watch face, 3/4" band width.    

Taranis: "Thunderer". Gallic thunder god. He was equated to Jupiter, symbolized by a spoked wheel and by a stylized spiral representing lightning. The wheel could represent either the sun or thunder, the latter because the rumbling of wheeled vehicles over log or stone roads resembled the sound of thunder. According to some, the sacrificial victims of Taranis were burned alive in cages of wood or in the trunks of trees. The worship of Taranis seems to have been widespread among the continental Celts.
