This is a wonderful, whimsical and very large pincushion/needle holder compared to what one usually sees.  The lion is beautifully articulated covering almost the entire width of the cushion with upright lashing tail (note humility bead).  The beaded head is a mounded roundel in clear beads accented with ruby red glass beads and a gray tinted bugle bead for the nose.  The brown velvet is entirely intact, as is the red cotton edge binding, interior lining and the double strand twined handle.  An elaborate floral decorates the front, with another mounded roundel and a feathery frond, with brass hand cut sequins and hand painted bugle beads on the dangles.

The center interior is heavily padded for holding pins with a pocket beneath.  There is slight fading on the sides of the inside pincushion and the hook and eye closure is missing.  It is a wonderful piece of Native American bead work and folk art combined created by a master bead artist.  The photographs speak for themselves. 

Measures:  11 inches long (unfolded) by 6 inches wide; 4.5 inches long folded closed by 8 inches wide by 2 inches in depth.
