The Flower of Compassion
Size/18" x 36" x 1.5" Medium/Oil on canvas Date/2008
Original Finger Painting by Ivan Chan
Story/Inspired by a sculpture carved two thousand years ago during the Tang Dynasty in China, this painting of a bodhisattva (Buddhist saint) fuses East and West in subject, style, and media.
The bodhisattva is often seen dressed in rich fabrics and jewelry--not a sign of material wealth, but a symbol of their generous spirit, which seeks to share serenity and compassion with others--while foregoing their own enlightenment until all are liberated from suffering. Rich colors complemented by iridescent golds, greens, reds, and oranges shimmer luxuriously to reflect the opulent and time-worn decoration of antique Buddhist statues and art.
Brilliant in hue and deep in feeling, this sumptuous painting is elegantly sized at 18" x 36". The sides are painted black so you can treasure and contemplate it with or without a frame, as you wish.
Authenticity/All work is guaranteed authentic. Signature (Chinese and English) and stamp on the back.
