Peintre paysagiste post-expressionniste. Elève d'A. Thys à Anvers. Etudie ensuite à l'Académie d'Anvers et au NHISKA (1939-43, A. Saverys). Fait le tour du monde (1934-37). Première exposition personnelle à Anvers en 1942. Prix Art Jeune (1942-43). Participe aux expositions de Apport* de 1943 à 1946. Membre fondateur de La Jeune Peinture Belge* (1945). En divorce vite, comme L. Peire et R. Slabbinck, pour cause de tendance abstraite excessive. Prix Artes (1947), Prix C. Huysmans (1951), Prix René Janssens, Prix de l'Académie royale de Belgique (1957). Relève de l'expressionnisme flamand. Emploie d'abord des teintes sombres qui finissent par s'aviver. Décore les navires Princesse Paola, Freubelafrica, Asia, Oceania et Europa. Rétrospective en 1986 au Musée d'Anvers. Oeuvres en possession de l'Etat et des Musées d'Anvers, Ixelles et Liège.Source:Arto.

Postexpressionistisch landschapschilder. Leerling van A. Thys in Antwerpen. Opleiding aan de Antwerpse Academie en het NHISKA (1939-43, A. Saverys). Maakt een wereldreis (1934-37). Eerste persoonlijke tentoonstelling in 1942 in Antwerpen. Prijs Art Jeune (1942-43). Neemt tussen 1943 en 1946 deel aan de tentoonstellingen van Apport. Stichtend lid van de Jeune Peinture Belge (1945); neemt na korte tijd samen met L. Peire en R. Slabbinck ontslag omwille van de te sterke neiging naar de abstractie. Prijs Artes (1947), Huysmans (1951), René Janssens van de Koninklijke Academie (1957). Zijn werk ligt in de lijn van het Vlaams expressionisme. Schildert aanvankelijk in een somber koloriet, maar evolueert naar levendiger tinten. Decoreert de schepen Prinses Paola, Freubelafrica, Asia, Oceania en Europa. Retrospectieve in 1986 in het Museum van Antwerpen. Werk in het bezit van de Staat en in de Musea van Antwerpen, Elsene en Luik.Bron: Arto.
