Square Screw Focal

My newest thoughts in glass have an industrial theme.  This simple but effective focal starts with a white base flattened into a soft rectangle shape and "screwed" in with a gunmetal glass flathead screw, once on each side.  Gunmetal trimmings on each end of the bead giving the finishing touch.  Enjoy!

The bead measures 21 mm tall, 22 mm wide & 11 mm thick.  I, JC, lovingly made this bead. I used the best glass and enamel choices I could find for the bead on a 1/8" mandrel, annealed it in my kiln, cleaned it (giving it a gentle massage), and asked it to wait in the waiting room after a small candle lighting ceremony to celebrate it's creation.

I sign each focal bead "JCH" in titanium pen, which leaves a deposit on the surface of the bead rather than scratching into the bead.  The beads greatly prefer this way of signing as it is gentle and kind of fancy.  The signature is always located discreetly near a bead hole.

Note: Bead sets are shipped unsigned unless specifically asked to sign them by the auction winner.  Please specify if you would like all or one of the beads in the set signed.  (Focals are always signed, but you must request that sets be signed.  Thank you!)

I was born and raised in Wisconsin and have been a student of art since childhood.  During my adolescence I received formal art training from various instructors and local artists, as well as at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design.  In 1996, I sought something to say in my art by choosing to study philosophy at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh.  After college, JC spent several years as a corporate trainer and while in that career, began to feel both great stress and, simultaneously, the need to melt glass.  While investigating how to do that, I was lead to lampwork bead making by the owner of a local stained glass store.  I ordered the basic equipment, taught myself lampworking and have grown to love the endless possibilities in glass and glass beads.  In 2005, I became a full time glass artist and I am now looking forward to a lifetime of exploring glass.  I currently live in a tiny little town in cental Utah in a cute yellow house with a shop in the basement.

I need you to communicate with me!  I'll send you an invoice pretty quickly after your win, unless I see that you have other bids (but I still expect you to give me an estimated time of payment).  If I don't get a reply or payment I will send second invoice a couple days later.  If I still haven't been contacted by you I'll send one last attempt to contact you via eBay messages.  If I haven't been contacted by you or paid within 7 days of close of auction I will not, under any circumstances, be able to sell the auction to you.  If you are waiting for other auctions to close, that's OK, but you must contact me to let me know (that's the super important part, folks).  There will be no exceptions.   You may combine up to 5 wins before paying.  If you are still bidding and want to combine shipping on even more auctions that's OK, but I need you to pay up on your first 5 items regardless of future auctions.  It's a gesture of good faith on your part and, on my part, a way to make sure my bills still get paid on time.  I also reserve the right to do business or not to do business with any given bidders for any given reason.  Thank you for understanding.
