This is a Chinese Dong Folk embroidery blouse!

Circa 100 years old, Dong Folk
Origin:Liping,Guizhou,Southwest China.

Folk costumes are a history book illustrating rich cultural and religious records of different ethnic groups. They carry clear insignia associated a person with an ethnic group. It is also a clear statement of each group's aesthetic beliefs and practices and often is an important pledge of love and devotion. Folk costumes are full of codes and patterns and to be able to decode and understand them is very interesting and exciting. Folk costume is not only a part of history, but remains a part of modern life, too.
Costumes of Guizhou's ethnic groups have complex composition with various decorations that are elaborately embroidered, taking a long time to complete. From the age of 5 or 6, women of ethnic groups begin to learn needlework, continuing through to their teens. At that time they make their wedding dress, baby carriers, and baby clothes. Then when they reach middle age, they continue to make clothes for their descendants, and never stop sewing and embroidering.
Cross Stitch is one of several embroidery techniques.The embroiderer uses cross-stitch and follows strictly the texture of the warp and weft of the textile to form raised patterns of geometric and symmetric beauty.
Flat Embroidery is usually used to adorn coats. It is done by first splitting the floss silk into a number of thin strands, and using these strands to embroider. Therefore the embroidered article is very fine and exquisite.
Pleat Embroidery (also called braid embroidery when the braids are evenly laid) is done by first making about ten pieces of floss silk into thin braids, then curing them evenly in short folds and sewing them on the outside to the centre, so that the patterns stand out if relief against the ground with a strong stereoscopic effect.
This is a famous a Dong Folk "moon" coat,it used plait embroidery etc.to make very nice"moon" patterns by golden thread on the foreside and backside of this coat.On the cuff and lap,artist used cross stitch,flat embroidery etc to make very beautiful patterns and geometry figure;fastener was twined with Chinese knots,very beautiful!Really handwork,really skill! Please look at the detail of images,dark blue nature plant colour dyed coat.There are some damages on neckline because of its old age,but it looks like good condition! It is really well worth collecting.Please don't miss this beautiful item!
