This profusely-illustrated 8 1/2"x11" booklet is the 2000 Annual (#27) of the Theatre Historical Society of America. It is 40 pages and filled with large archival photographs and historical details on many of the wonderful atmospheric theatres designed by renowned architect John Eberson, creator of this fanciful style of theatre architecture. Seated inside such an auditorium, with the blue sky and moving clouds overhead, you felt like you were in a Persian courtyard, or a Spanish marketplace, or some other exotic locale. Eberson's atmospheric theatres were among the country's most interesting and unique movie palaces.
The issue contains a biographical profile and commentary on Eberson and his works, and there are photographs of the following theatres: MAJESTIC (1915, Austin TX); MAJESTIC (1921, Dallas TX); ORPHEUM (1922, Wichita KS); MAJESTIC (1923, Houston TX); CAPITOL (1925, Chicago IL); AVALON (1927, Chicago IL); ARAGON BALLROOM (1926, Chicago IL); OLYMPIA (1926, Miami FL); TAMPA (1926, Tampa FL); GRAND RIVIERA (1925, Detroit MI); RIVIERA ANNEX (1927, Detroit MI); PALACE (1926, Canton OH); LOEW'S (1928, Richmond VA); RIVIERA (1927, Omaha NE); UNIVERSAL (1927, Brooklyn NY); UPTOWN (1928, Kansas City MO); PALACE (1928, Marion OH); LOEW'S & UNITED ARTISTS (1928, Louisville KY); CAPITOL (1928, Flint MI); STATE (1927, Kalamazoo MI); PARADISE (1928, Chicago IL); LOEW'S PARADISE (1929, Bronx NY); LOEW'S VALENCIA (1929, Queens NY); LOEW'S (1929, Akron OH); MAJESTIC (1929, San Antonio TX); PARAMOUNT (1929, Anderson IN); PALACE (1931, Albany NY).
