Item Description

You are bidding on an original watercolor of a fawn by Johnny Eck, legendary star of Tod Browning's classic 1932 horror film FREAKS.

The postcard measures 6-3/4" by 3-3/4".

The watercolor is painted on the front left side of the postcard and depicts a fawn resting in a small tuft of grass. Johnny has signed the watercolor underneath of the image "Eck." The verso of the postcard includes a handwritten thank you message to artist Nick Bougas, who apparently had mailed Johnny a poster from FREAKS, along with a drawing of Johnny Eck's dog "Major." The message also mentions Forrest J. Ackerman paying him a visit. Johnny finished off the short note with a very bold full signature "Johnny Eck" along with love from Major.

Johnny had a passion for artwork from an early age, but he is best known for his screen door paintings, a form of art that was indigenous to Baltimore. Examples of his artwork are very rare, and this is a very unique and rare opportunity to purchase an original piece of artwork by this cult film legend.
