I have been selling this book for a few years
now and some asked how come I did not have a review in my web
site? That's a good question! I had assumed that everyone knew of
this book which has been called "The Bible of Stereo
Photography".
This was my first stereo book, back in 1988. I
have read it and enjoyed thoroughly. I even learned how to freeview by
trying the stereo pairs in this book. I still consult it while
working on my "Tutorials" or when pondering about a
technical aspect in stereo. For example, I recently did a
comparison of stereo projection screens. I read chapter 19 "Operation
of the Stereo Projection Screen" and was amazed by the
ideas presented there! This is truly a great resource for anyone
interested in the technical aspects of stereo photography!
A few years ago, the publisher of this book, Harry
zur Kleinsmiede of 3-D Book Productions
(Netherlands) asked me of I would consider writing an update for
this book. This book was written in 1982, so it could perhaps be
updated to include the modern developments in stereoscopic
photography. To be honest, I do not think I have the knowledge or
experience to work on this. Every line in this book is as
valid today as it was in 1982.
Now, this classic is even better! The 4th
printing (2003 - new cover) includes an introduction "Koo
Ferwerda and his World of 3-D" by Abram Klooswijk, plus the
booklet "Jacobus G. Ferwerda - The Man of 3D, Life and work of
today's leading author on stereo photography", 32 pages on the
life of Ferwerda, illustrated with 21 stereoscopic pairs in View-Master
format. This booklet in itself sells for $16.95. Now, it
is free with the book!
