James Swann 9ct Gold Thimble & Box, Birmingham 1920

DESCRIPTION

See additional pictures. Nine carat (9K) gold thimble made by James Swann formerly of 25 Hylton Street, Birmingham. Plain pattern top, daisy border and flat turn over rim. Hallmarked on the rim: J·S (for James Swann), 9 and .375 (indicating 9 carat gold), the Birmingham Assay Office anchor mark and the date letter upper case "V" for 1920. This thimble is very slightly off round but otherwise in excellent condition - free of holes, dents, damage and repairs. Height approx. 2.1 cm; internal base diameter 1.5 cm; Weight: 4.6 grams.

Comes complete with retail jeweller's cardboard box. Jeweller's details printed on the lid: J. PRESTON & CO., Jewellers, 36 BRADSHAWGATE, BOLTON (Lancashire). (I looked up the address and the site in Bolton is now occupied by a Yates's Wine Lodge.) The paper hinge is fractured.
