This is a great piece os Japanese yakimono. Yakimono in Japanese means "fired things". This piece of pottery is Daikoku's mallet with a rat on top. Daikoku is a God of wealth and good fortune. The lucky mallet. UCHIDE NOKOZUCHI- can magically produce anything desired when struck. Coins fall out of the mallet when it is shaken. The piece is signed on the bottom by the artist. Measures 7 inches long and 4 inches tall.
