This
is a large and decorative clock, beautiful blue enameled panels in
Egyptian style, shells and floral details. The CLOCK is very heavy cast
brass, pierced ornate detail and cast finials. To the sides have a very
nice cast patterns.
The pretty blue dial with inset peal studs Roman numerals near mint in quality minor nibble.
The movement is of excellent quality stamped with Japy Freres.
To the rear has original door covering the movement in working order striking the hour and half hour on a bell.

main clock is excellent however the top finial/Urn is missing replacements are easy to obtain and minor restoration is an excellent investment . Dial is
also in excellent near mint condition.

JAPY FRERES
Japy Freres (also
Japy Freres e Cie) produced clocks that were generally very ornate
during the 1800's until the early 1900's. Many clock manufacturers were
supplied quality clock movements by Japy Freres. Japy Freres was
founded by Frederic Japy of Beaucourt, born 1749. Frederic first made
movements for the clock industry in 1777 and soon became the largest
and most commercially important clock-making concern in France.
After
his death the business continued and Japy Frères became famous in the
19th century for the mass production of quality movements of the
‘pendule de Paris’ type at Badeval in France. Ormolu clocks are a fine
example of the craftsmanship required by clockmakers.. Some clocks are
stamped with a medallion on the back plate. This refers to the award of Grand Medal of Honour bestowed upon
Japy Frères et Cie around 1854.

The base is square so its 8 cm across both ways .
on the base at the bottom of the clock below the door on the back there is a number 34804
inside the clock there is a very clear Jappy mark not got magnifying glass at hand but will get pictures later hopefully with a zoom.
Inside there is two numbers one reads 129 immediatly below this so not sure if its a continuation or a new number the following numbers continue 34804 below the jappy medallion behind the bell where the pendulum swing its got two number 5 2 there abit of distance between the two but not that much , theres further medallions and numbers on the roof of the inside of the clock.
every single piece of porcelain has red letters and numbers on the reverse including the very top , the tthe middle and the bottom of the Garnitures Egyptian serves .inside the clock on the reverse side or inside of the porcelain panels One number I can make out is 34804 and gaig
and below that toward the bottom is 45
theres other writing and numbers but
my eyes are not to good sorry.On the other side I can see 70 at the bottom and big s in the middle and more words hidden behind the bar each
corner of the porcelain panels seems to have a red cross on it as well and one has a single 0 in the middle between the
two red crosses. all letters numbers ones can see - read and cant seem to be red.
