CHOP SIGNED
This print contains Kiyoshi Saito's personal signature in the form of a "chop" mark. In the lower righthand corner you can see a red square with calligraphy, which is Kiyoshi Saito's personal chop mark. A chop is a traditional century's old method of signature in Japan and China, and the chop is skillfully handcarved from wood, horn or stone (an art in itself) - which is also known as a hanko. Ink is applied to the carved signature on the chop face, which is then pressed onto the woodblock print.

BEAUTIFUL
THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO GET A GREAT MID CENTURY TREASURE
Saito's large prints sell for high amounts of money (normally over $15OO each). Always a proponent of a classless society, Kiyoshi Saito created art for everyone. The beautiful small prints I offer (both mixed media and full woodblock prints) were made to allow more people to enjoy his work. These prints are no less authentic nor magnificent than his larger prints, and provide affordable alternatives for the discriminating art lover. I have a limited number of these incredible works of art, and have never seen them offered anywhere else, so this is a special offering and rare opportunity to acquire and own real Saito prints.
On an episode of Antiques Roadshow, in Cleveland, 2 Saito prints were featured and appraised. Highly collectible, with unique Cubist, Modern and Abstract elements, his prints are worth many hundreds of dollars. This mixed media woodblock print is an excellent example of Saito's amazing work.
I am giving you an opportunity to buy this fabulous and very special authentic KIYOSHI SAITO (1907-1997) print

What an amazing find! Carefully stored away for many decades, this very special, original, mixed media print by world-renowned woodblock print artist, Kiyoshi Saito, can be framed or displayed alone.
~ THIS MASTERFUL PRINT is a HIGHLY UNIQUE COMBINATION ~
of a Photo-Mechanical (Offset Print) foundation upon which Saito has laid individual woodcut designs in colors including black (tree trunks and structural elements), brown (walls), green (leaves) and gray (roofs). Always an innovator of Sosaku - Hanga, Saito employed this creative pairing of machine and woodcut printing to achieve incredible depth and intrigue in this extraordinary work of art. The offset printing provides the ultimate in highly detailed textural effects (wooden ground and lush leaves), which are overlaid with layers of subtly contrasting rich ink. (Saito often made numerous impressions of colors to give his work the deepest tones, with tremendous depth.) This unusual approach creates a harmony of hues and textures, as well as an integration of the underlying aesthetics and unique ensemble of artist-selected colors. The multi-planer overlay of woodblock print elements, spectacularly splendid serene saturation incorporating selected tones and the specific spiritual nature of the piece are magnificent. Exceptionally Gorgeous Print
There is no reserve on this absolutely gorgeous, supremely superb, hand~crafted, gallery~quality, Japanese print by the master Japanese woodblock artist KIYOSHI SAITO. A marvelous modern design is truly stunning. The rich browns, soft gray, serene taupe, glorious greens and black colors are exceptionally lovely. This elegant work of art, with its sweetly contrasting forms and colors, is a sensual delight!
Every color of this print represents a separate woodblock, skillfully designed, drawn and carved with special tools by Master Artist Saito approximately 5O years ago. After painstaking carving, the blocks are hand inked (with a brayer), paper is placed over the prepared block and the ink is tranferred from the raised surfaces of the wood to the paper by rubbing methods. Execution of each step takes tremendous skill and patience. This is the oldest technique of making prints and this is a truly fantastic, real woodblock print of superb quality.
It would look marvelous in any venue, displayed with other similar items, or simply displayed alone, perhaps on a stand. What a wonderful gift this would be for any print collector or lover of Japanese art!
It is in excellent condition. Sale is final.
It has tremendous character and grace.
Kiyoshi Saito's incredibly beautiful prints are displayed in a museum dedicated to him alone, Yanaizu Municipal Saito Kiyoshi Museum (in Japan), and in the following: Cincinnati Art Museum, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Achenbach Foundation for the Graphic Arts, San Francisco, New York Public Library; Art Institute of Chicago, Fukushima Prefectural Museum of Art and Kanagawa Prefectural Museum. His work was exhibited at the Salon Printemps in 1948, and in 1951 he received first prize for Steady Gaze at the inaugural Sao Paolo Bienniale.
