KURT PEISER (Antwerpen 1887-Ukkel 1962) 

Realistisch schilder met grote sociale en humanitaire bewogenheid. Tekenaar, aquarellist, lithograaf en etser. Antwerpenaar van Poolse origine. Opleiding aan de Academie van Antwerpen (G. Jacobs). Auteur van riviergezichten en marines en van het vissersleven rond Heist maar vooral van het leven in en rond de Antwerpse haven. Illustreert de ellende en de tragiek van de kleine man aan de rand van de maatschappij. In marines schildert hij het zeemansleven dat hij zelf gedurende tien jaar meemaakte. In 1914 worden schilderijen uit een tentoonstelling in Antwerpen verwijderd en wordt hij, wegens aanslag op de goede zeden, vervolgd. Wijdt een etsalbum aan de Antwerpse haven. Zijn grafisch oeuvre is - evenals zijn schilderwerk - zeer uitgebreid. Lid van La Gravure Originale Belge. In 1929 wijdt Galerie G. Giroux een belangrijke overzichtstentoonstelling aan zijn oeuvre.Bron: Arto.
