In Tibet and Nepal, door curtains are often used instead of doors. The door curtain such as this is an attractive doorway hanging, or wall decoration that reminds you of your belief in the sacredness of life, a belief that everything leads to the place where you are meant to be.

The eight symbols  are embroidered from the local craftsman  in  the Kathmandu Valley.

"Om mani padme hum"  see other transliterations below) is probably the most famous mantra in Buddhism and Hinduism, the six syllabled mantra of the bodhisattva of compassion, Avalokiteshvara (Sanskrit. Chenrezig in Tibetan). The mantra is particularly associated with the four-armed Shadakshari form of Avalokiteshvara. The Dalai Lama is said to be an incarnation of Avalokiteshvara, so the mantra is especially revered by his devotees.

At the centre of this door curtain is the symbol of @Kalachakra -
Kalacakra  is a term used in Tantric Buddhism that means "time-wheel" or "time-cycles". It refers both to a Tantric deity (Tib. yidam of Vajrayana Buddhism and to the philosophies and meditation practices contained within the Kalachakra Tantra and its many commentaries. The Kalachakra Tantra is more properly called the Kalachakra Laghutantra, and is said to be an abridged form of an original text, the Kalachakra Mulatantra which is no longer extant. Some Buddhist masters assert that Kalachakra is the most advanced form of Vajrayana practice, it certainly is one of the most complex system within tantric Buddhism.The Kalachakra tradition revolves around the concept of time and cycles: from the cycles of the planets, to the cycles of human breathing, it teaches the practice of controlling the most subtle energies within one's body on the path to enlightenment. The Kalachakra deity represents a Buddha and thus omniscience. Since Kalachakra is time and everything is under the influence of time, he knows all. Similarly, the wheel is without beginning or end.

At the top is the symbol of Double dorjee: It is also called Vajra. Dorjee is also a common male name in Tibet and Bhutan. Dorjee can also refer to a small sceptre held in the right hand by tibetan lamas durimg religious ceremonies.


The Vajra or diamond that destroys all kinds of ignorance, and itself is indestructible. In tantraci rituals the vajra symbolizes the male principle which represents method in the right hand and the bell symbolozes the female principles, which is held in the left. Their interaction leads to enlightenement. Also the Dorjee or Vajra represents the ''UPADAYS'' or method tibetans name vahra as ''DORJEE''.

At the bottom is the symbol of Astamangal: The top of the doorcurtain is made with the budhist symbol from the flag.
