This Ken Onion design, a beautiful Whirlwind, comes with the patented SpeedSafe ambidextrous opening system, a 440A stainless steel blade, an injection molded Polyimide handle with RealTree Hardwoods camo design, and a removeable pocket clip. Like all Ken Onion designed knives, this Whirlwind fits your hand perfectly, and has just the right weight to it to feel like a well designed tool! Top that off with the beautifully designed handle and you've got quite a knife!

The Speedsafe system was specifically designed for sporting and work situations where one handed opening is preferable and safer. Its safe, efficient opening as made it a popular choice for hunters, fishermen, and those who require the one hand opening funtion on the job-site.

The heart of the SpeedSafe system is its torsion bar. Closed, the torsion bar helps keep the knife closed, preventing it from being opened by "gravity." In order to open the knife, the user must apply manual pressure to the thumb stud or Index-Open System (Index-Open uses a protruding portion of the blade's finger guard to give the user an alternative to the thumb stud. The user manually pulls back on the prootrusion with the index finger to open the blade) to overcome the resistance of the torsion bar. After the blade is out of the handle, the torsion bar moves along its half-moon track and takes over. The blade opens smoothly and locks into position.

Is it legal? Yes, SpeedSafe blades DO NOT deploy with the push of a button or by gravity, the user must manually overcome the torsion bar's resistance using the thumb stud, therefore SpeedSafe blades fall fully outside of the Federal definition of a switchblade. However, due to the many different restrictions in different areas of the world and United States, it is the buyer's responsibility to ensure that this knife does not violate laws or regulations within the area of use! Furthermore, by bidding on this knife, the bidder is stating they are 18 years of age or older.
