To
ensure safety and effectiveness when spraying,
it is critical to measure relative humidity, wind
speed and wind direction. Many locales regulate
the maximum permitted wind speed during spraying
to minimize spray drift. In hot, dry conditions,
expensive chemicals may evaporate into the air
rather than onto your crops. However, you can
minimize costly evaporation by selecting an appropriate
nozzle and increasing the spray droplet size.
Quickly
& Accurately Calculates Delta T For You
The
Kestrel 3500 DT incorporates a Delta T calculation,
the spread between the wet bulb temperature and
the dry bulb temperature (in degrees C). Delta
T offers a quick guide to determining acceptable
spraying conditions. For example, it is not recommended
to apply pesticides when Delta T is above 10 —
a range of 2 to 8 is ideal. With the Kestrel 3500
Delta T, the calculation is done for you accurately
and simply.
The
Kestrel 3500 Delta T incorporates barometric pressure
correction in its wet bulb temperature calculation,
ensuring accuracy even on low pressure days, at
high altitudes, and in very dry weather when Delta
T monitoring is important. No other pocket weather
meter offers this feature with this level of accuracy.
Certified
and Guaranteed Accuracy
Every single Kestrel manufactured at Nielsen-Kellerman
is calibrated for every single value, either directly
against NIST-traceable standards or against an
intermediary standard that is calibrated daily.
Every unit is shipped with a FREE Certificate
of Conformity that states what calibrations were
performed, and the certified performance specifications.
What does that mean for the customer?
They can be absolutely sure that their weather
readings are accurate to the stated specifications.
Some competing weather instruments claim the same
specifications as Kestrel, but only Kestrel certifies
their accuracy. What does that mean for the customer?

What
is Delta T?
The
Delta T is the spread between the wet bulb temperature
and the dry bulb temperature (in degrees C). Delta T offers
a quick guide to determining acceptable spraying conditions.
For example, it is not recommended to apply pesticides
when Delta T is above 10 - a range of 2 to 8 (degrees
C) is ideal.
Delta
T is a measurement used primarily by agriculture professionals
in Australia. Especially in very arid environments like
Australia, spray drift and evaporation is crucial to monitor.
Since the Delta T equation factors in the wet bulb temperature,
relative humidity is taken into account. The Delta T measurement
is therefore indicative of the evaporation rate and droplet
lifetime.
Spray
applicators must consider the environmental conditions
before and during application. Smaller droplets provide
better coverage than larger droplets. However, if the
droplets are too small for the weather conditions (i.e.
it's very dry or windy), they will evaporate before they
hit the intended plant. If the droplets are too large,
they may not provide sufficient coverage. Monitoring the
Delta T can help spray applicators decide if it's a good
time to spray, and also make appropriate nozzle selections.
With
the high value of many herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers,
etc, spray applicators need to make sure that the spray
is evenly and successfully reaching the target. Additionally,
this is of particular interest in irrigation systems.
With increasing scarcity of water resources, it's important
to ensure that the water is not evaporating before it
reaches the ground, that it's not blown away before hitting
the plants (spray drift).
The
Kestrel 3500 Delta T incorporates barometric pressure
correction in its wet bulb temperature calculation, ensuring
accuracy even on low pressure days, at high altitudes,
and in the very dry weather when Delta T monitoring is
important. No other pocket weather meter offers this feature
with this level of accuracy.
Wet
bulb temperature is calculated from the relative humidity
and ambient temperature, both readings that a Kestrel
3000 + model will measure.
