It is French-inspired Renaissance chateau near Asheville, North Carolina. ~~~ The Mansion is 175,000 square feet and is the largest privately owned home in the US. The indoor swimming pool holds 70,000 gallons ! It is an 8,000 acre estate ~~~ George Vanderbilt envisioned Biltmore in 1888, while on a short vacation to Asheville. His imagination was sparked by the area's beauty. He felt inspired to create a relaxed country estate in the Blue Ridge Mountains that would welcome family and friends for weeks, even months. ~~~ The estate is split in half by the French Broad River. It is owned by the Biltmore Company which is controlled by Bill Cecil II. It is designated a National Historic Landmark
