Knitting By The Sea Large Oil Painting by David W Haddon (1884 - 1914) A superb oil
painting on canvas by David W Haddon. The painting depicts a lady knitting
with a vast seascape behind her. This is a very accomplished work and
is an excellent example of Haddon's genre scenes. The painting is in very fine condition, presented on its original
stretchers with only minor paint loss and surface cracking in places. The
painting is presented in what is presumably its original late 19th century
giltwood frame with minor imperfections. The painting is signed bottom
right, a first class painting that would grace any home. Similar paintings by Haddon sell for many
thousands of pounds at auction please see results in the picture section below. Art as an Investment In these uncertain financial times tangible assets such as gold and art are being recommended as a safer alternative to stocks and shares by many leading experts. “Companies go bust, artists don’t,” said David Douglas an Irish art expert of the recent economic turmoil. Damien Hirst's phenomenally successful sale at Sotheby's recently illustrates that high end art is able to prosper in an economic downturn. Less well publicised are the examples of the many thousands of lesser known artists whose work continues to increase in price when offered at auction.
