by
Gershom Wetzel
Up for auction is an 11" x14" portrait of Kurt Busch printed on 110lb heavyweight paper by artist Gersom Wetzel. The following is the artist's bio:
Gershom Reese Wetzel was born in Reggio di Calabria , Italy on December 9th, 1976 . An avid fan of Star Wars, dinosaurs, Superman and Spiderman, Gershom discovered his artistic talent as a result of his fascination with these and other child-hood heroes, and by age 5, his drawings were already demonstrating an understanding of scale, human proportions, facial structures and emotions, and an acute attention to detail. His family made its final move to the United States from Holland , and since 1981, Gershom has lived in the Dallas - Fort Worth area. He graduated from Grapevine High School and, already very involved in church practices, continued to volunteer with youth activities; there, an interest in filmmaking developed. In 2001, Gershom enrolled at Dallas Baptist University , declared a Biblical Studies major and, in his sophomore year, added an Art minor. The remaining two years at DBU were filled with drawing, painting, sculpting, and design classes. His interest for film turned to scriptwriting, which developed out of his involvement with DBU’s drama ministry Face2Face November of 2004 saw Gershom’s first experience in the public exposure of his artistic abilities when one of his professors encouraged him to answer an advertisement of “artist needed.” With further encouragement from his girlfriend Emily and his best friend Tim, he pulled together a quick portfolio, contacted the business, and scheduled a meeting. Over the next six months, Gershom continued to draw for the business and eventually secured a short-lived full-time employment there until, in July 2005, the business relocated to Lake Charles , Louisiana . Though invited to move with the company, Gershom opted to remain close to his family and explore the local options of DFW.
