For auction is a really nice L. G. Wright Purple Slag Glass Cow on Basket. It has a really nice swirl of different shades of purple and white on its back. This cow measures about 3-1/2" high, by about 5-1/2" long by 4-1/8" wide. It is in very good condition. The only noticeable flaws are a couple of areas on the scalloped rim of the basket (see photos). I am not an expert on glass, but it looks like the mold seam on the top edge of the scallop extended out a bit too much or was not polished down, or whatever they do. So that excess glass extending up from the seam chipped in a few places. Other than that, there are no other chips, cracks or repairs on the top cow portion.
Many of the L. G. Wright pieces were unmarked, and this cow is unmarked. Wright was a wholesale company only, not a factory. Imperial and Westmoreland made most of the Wright slag colors. This purple slag cow covered dish is pictured in Taves & Jennings 2007 Slag & Marble Glass book, on p.128: Cow Covered Dish #80-3, 5.4" long, not marked, Purple Slag, made in 1960s & 1979-95, valued at $45- $55.
This cow on a nest really looked nice with my purple slag glass collection and would be a nice addition to your slag glass or cow collection.
