Direct from one of my premier English shippers, this listing is for a wonderful antique balance scale AND 13 (THIRTEEN) WEIGHTS!!

The brass scale is mounted on a thick, beveled edge mahogany base, with original maker’s information stamped in several places.

The solid base is marked “Herbert & Sons Kings Cross Ltd”;

The brass pan is embossed “Herbert & Sons Kings Cross”;

The brass arms are embossed several places as follows:

“Herbert & Sons Kings Cross”;

“Class C”

“To Weigh 1 lb 8 oz”.

There are 13 BRASS weights with various markings as follows:

1 weight – “A&B 200 grammes”

2  weights – “100 GRS”

1 weight – “D*J 100 grammes”

1 weight – “A&B 50 grammes”

1 weight – “50 GRS”

1 weight – “20 G”

1 weight – “A*B 20 gram”

2 weights – “A*B 10 gram”

2 weights – “10 G”

1 weight – “5”

JUST THE WEIGHTS ALONE ARE HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE and also fabulous for decorator items…the larger ones are excellent bookends or desktop accessories!  And of course, these scales are fabulous for a French Country or English kitchen, and also make a stunning statement piece on a farm table or library table!!

20”H;

Beveled edge base, 20” x 9 ½”;

Length of brass arm, appx. 12 ¼”.

All of my antiques are hand selected from premier European shippers.  I do not purchase in bulk, but prefer to individually purchase the items, with each piece selected for its unique characteristics and quality.

CONDITION:

  The scale is in what appears to be good condition, visually appealing with normal signs of age and use, scratches, dings, and other imperfections.  There is age related wear, of course – the wood base has dents, dings and darkening to the finish in areas.  The small dish on chains has age wear as well, but it is original to the scale as it is embossed with the maker’s name.  (PLEASE EMAIL WITH ANY QUESTIONS AS THIS IS NOT MY AREA OF EXPERTISE!!!!)  Please keep in mind antique furniture should be purchased for its uniqueness, higher quality material and craftsmanship and antique patina, charm and character.
