What a pleasant piece of authentic old Rookwood! It's mellow and large, and it has a shaped rim that adds a ton of character. I haven't washed it, of course - so it'll clean up nicely I'm sure.
It's big: 11 1/2" by 9 1/2" by almost 2" deep.
There are no chips, cracks, scuff, dings or other goof-ups. What I first thought was crazing - isn't! There is a very subtle and light "pattern" within the glaze. Very nice and very subtle.
It is marked with the Rookwood logo and the date - 1942. It is shape number 6817. There are NO OTHER MARKINGS except for the stilt marks. No X, in other words. It's a first quality piece.
Here at 341, I have two "Prime Directives:"
First: I never, under any circumstances, use a reserve, and everything starts at $9, sometimes even less.
Second: I don't clean, repair, or otherwise monkey around with anything. I push enough dust aside to note any flaws, but if I discovered it in some dusty attic, you can look forward to a little dust on it when it gets to your house. If it has a flaw or a wart, I'll tell you about it. So rest easy and have some fun. Why not place a little tiny bid right now so's you don't forget about it later.
Sorry 'bout the estate dirt. I'd say a quick and gentle bath is all it needs.
I guarantee you'll be thrilled.
GOOD LUCK
