A Rare french Gilt Bronze and Red tortoiseshell Boulle Mantel Clock with charming curly Louis XVI style elements, Ormolu
dial engraved with foliate
arabesques and blue/black/white enameled dial with roman numerals and minute
arabic numerals
protected by glass door window
The clock was made in France c.1850-1860
The french movement in good working condition with 8 days going working
and the 1/1 and 1/2 hours striking on a bell
The movement is signed by the famous maker:
Vincenti et Cie,
Med. D'Argent 1855,
with serial number

Absolutely stunning
piece. The clock is after a famous clock, done by the master and king of
elaborate inlay-ed furniture and decorative items,
André Charles Boulle (1642-1732).

The Frenchman
André Charles Boulle (1642-1732)
followed in his father's footsteps and became a cabinet maker. In 1672 he
was appointed court artist and took up residence in the Louvre, the royal
palace in Paris. He was the first artist to be allowed more than one
artistic discipline because he needed more than one to complete his works of
art and was in favor with Louis, Dauphin of France
(1729-1765) and was granted this great
and unusual honor for the time. He was incharge of a workshop with many
employees. His workshop was famous for producing furniture with flower
designs sophisticatedly executed in marquetry (inlay) with wood metal,
natural shell and tusk. Many of the designs were Boulle's own, but
designs by other artists were produced. In 1715 Boulle handed his workshop
over to his sons. Nevertheless he remained involved with the business. In
the eighteenth century Boulle marquetry was famous. Even in the nineteenth
century, designs from Boulle's workshop were still being copied as this
