PHYSICAL GRAFFITI is the last great Zeppelin title recorded before the influences of the day (synthesizers, disco) ended Zeppelin’s reign as Kings of loud and sexy blues- metal. Playfully experimenting with new sounds, the band blended Middle Eastern themes, folk-stylings, heavy blues, and deeply impassioned rock riffs into a double LP set that sounds as if they were still enjoying their place in the rock pantheon. As swirling and adventurous as this collection is, there are some tracks so tightly fused – so ultra-Zeppelinesque—that it is tempting to name this as a #1 or #2 must have.

“Trample Underfoot” and “Custard Pie” alone are almost worth the double LP price tag. Don’t get it wrong, this album rocks but with more texture and cohesion. BBC SESSIONS FOUR LP BOX SET -

Taken from various London Broadcast venues and carried over the European airwaves by the BBC, these 1969-71 BBC Sessions are the authorized release of songs that have been long known and available only via bootlegging. Personally compiled by guitarist Jimmy Page, this collection captures the band without the use of overdubbing: live, raw and in their prime. It showcases many songs that were on their way to becoming rock standards plus allows the listener to hear songs that were still being worked out. A case in point is the inclusion of Stairway To Heaven, performed here eight months prior to it’s official studio release on Led Zeppelin IV. The BBC Sessions are now considered the best collection of live Led Zeppelin material released to date. Other selections include You Shook Me, I Can’t Quit You Baby, Communication Breakdown, Dazed and Confused, Whole Lotta Love, How Many More Times, Immigrant Song, Heartbreaker, Black Dog and thirteen medleys of blues and R & B snippets among others. Transferred from the original analog masters and cut on the Grundman all-tube cutting system, the Classic reissue reveals an inner essence that has never before come through.
