Up for auction Lee Smith, award winning artist, b. 1952. Traditional Ethnic Impressionist Impressionism.


This was an old master classical study piece I painted in 2004. I fell in love with this girl's face, her lips and the ornate headdress and necklace. My black paintings never sold well on ebay but they were my best sellers in a South Carolina gallery. Feel free to make your BEST OFFER. All of my paintings are Painted by hand using the sight size method either from life or photo reference or imagination or combination of these methods. The sight size method means there is no pencil or charcoal drawing, no projector or tracing is used, no overpainting of a print, just measurements by eyesight and hand coordination. I start with very thin paint and literally "draw" the big shapes, working all over the painting bringing all areas up to the same level of completion. Early layers are kept thin while the top finishing layer is the one with the "jewelry" those bits of highlight or sparkle and loose lush brushstrokes.

I love to paint all subject matter, people, portraits, landscape, architecture, still life, animals including domestic wild and farm animals.
