LIMOGES PORCELAIN SALT CELLARS/HANDPAINTED/GOLD SWANS

FROM FRANCE A LIMOGES PORCELAIN SET TO ADD ELEGANCE TO YOUR DINNER TABLE

TWO SWANS PAINTED GREEN ON THE OUTSIDE AND GOLD ON THE INSIDE HAVE A SIGNATURE OF THE ARTIST AND THE MARKING "LIMOGES" ON THE REVERSE.

Each swan is 2 1/2" wide from tail to beak.  Each is 2" high.  The spoons are 3 inches long.

These swans are expertly painted.  The inside is thick gold leaf which would not tarnish with salt as silver would.  The beaks and eyes of the swans are also painted gold.  The exterior is a forest green mat not glossy.  The contrast between the shiny inside and the mat exterior makes this set quite interesting. 

These could be a wonderful holiday present as they come in their origianl leather and satin box, edged with satin ribbon and with a gold antique closure.

On the base I read the initials of the painter S and M.  Underneath the signature you have the words "Decos Mains, Limoges", which means that the decoration was handpainted in Limoges, and the swans were made of Limoges Porcelain, one of the most renowned porcelain in France.
