8vo hardback in Very Good condition. Written by Charles H. McCarthy and published by Mcclure, Phillips & Co., in November, 1901. First Edition. 1901 (MCMI) on title page. 531 pages including Index in this scholarly work on Lincoln's hope and ideas for restoration and reconstruction of the southern states after the Civil War. Burgundy ribbed boards with etched design on cover and gilt spine lettering that is still very bright. Gilt top edge. Small tear where front endpaper is pulled away a little at top inside, and some wear on spine ends, else clean tight copy with no markings. Small Christmas gift tag laid in, dated 1910 with a handwritten "Lest we forget" across the top. Proceeds benefit Lancaster PA Public Library.
