i got this at a local estate sale. it had a hand written sticker on it that said 'Hoffman'. i picked up a few of other items similar to this one that were all wrapped up in paper in a box. they look like they never were used. Supposedly the grandfather had immigrated from Czechoslavakia in the 1950's and had collected glass. I GOOGLED 'Hoffman vase' and found other ones similar to this one. The glass is frosted and the shiny black part is raised above the frosted part. I think this type of glass is called 'cameo'. the tulip / heart design looks like it has been carved. I know nothing about glass so i don't know how this is done. if you go to www.loetz.com and click on 'The Masters' you will see similar vases. the vase is 8 inches tall and 3 1/8 inches wide. it is in excellent condition.
