LONGINES 10K Gold Vintage Art Deco Gents Watch 1940

 Presented for sale is an elegant Longines 10 carat gold filled gentlemans' Art Deco watch in excellent overall condition and manufactured in 1940. This sixty nine year old watch is quite remarkable for its age.  It has a very good Art Deco case, the newly restored dial looks as new and the freshly oiled and adjusted movement is running perfectly and keeping time. A new crystal has recently been fitted so this watch is ready for immediate use.  If you are looking for a classic vintage watch then you will be very pleased with this timepiece. Triple signed on the dial, case and movement, as with all of my watches, authenticity is backed by a full money refund guarantee.

The Longines signed dial has just been restored to look as new. It has a satin silver finish with gold coloured Arabic numerals and dots marking the hours.  The elegant gold hands in fine shape and the recently fitted glass crystal is clean and clear. 

The 10 carat gold filled case is in very good condition.  It shows the expected signs of  the use this watch has received over the years, still looking very nice indeed.  For the sake of accuracy, I would point out that when inspecting the case with a loupe, I spotted some very light brassing underneath the lug tips but I do not feel it spoils the integrity of the watch at all. The outside of the case is marked "10K Gold Filled".  Looking inside the cover, it is Longines signed and also hallmarked as 10 carat  gold filled.  The case measures approximately 37 mm from lug to lug and 25 mm across, excluding the crown.  Please note that there is no presentation engraving on the rear cover.

The clean and bright Longines 10L caliber manual movement has 17 jewels set in solid gold casings.  It  is running perfectly and keeping time, having just been  professionally oiled and adjusted.  The movement number is 6049822, dating the manufacture of this watch to the 1940.

The watch is fitted with a lightly used "Fossil" brown leather lizard grain strap.

In great condition, this watch listed for sale provides a rare opportunity to purchase a fully serviced and restored vintage watch that will look fabulous when worn and should give years of reliable service, provided it is serviced as and when required, normally every four years or so.  Longines watches are becoming more and more appreciated for their quality and elegance. This one will make a great investment and a lovely vintage watch to wear.

Longines History

Longines is one of the few 19th century companies still producing watches today. The founders started up in 1833 and the Longines trademark was first used in 1866. It may surprise some people to hear that Longines was the first watchmaker to have been classified at one or other of the four government observatories and the company won many awards for the accuracy of their watches.  By 1950, Longines watches had won ten Grand Prizes and twenty eight Gold Medal Awards at World's Fair and International Expositions, each won in competition with the word's leading watchmakers.   Longines timepieces were used to time the majority of world's records in major sporting events. Practically all of the great pioneer flights were navigated with Longines watches, including the famous Lindbergh flight in 1927. The Lindbergh aviation watch produced in 1933 was based on Lindbergh's own design.  Today Longines watches are still highly sought after as elegant, reliable and accurate high end timepieces.

I warrant that the watch you purchase is as described in the listing and I will provide you with a full refund, including postage or undertake any repairs that are necessary, if it differs significantly from the description.  I pack my watches very well but very occasionally a watch may be roughly treated in transit which, as many vintage watches are not shock proof, can affect performance.   If a fault has developed with your watch in transit to you please do not take your watch to your own watchmaker without first agreeing this with me.

I have all of my watches professionally checked before sale and test them for smooth operation and timekeeping prior to listing.  I have them serviced and have any other work that is required carried out if they are not running smoothly and keeping reasonable time.  If I have not stated that the watch has been serviced you may wish to have this work done within a few months of purchase, particularly if you intend to wear the watch on a daily basis.  On request, I can provide you with details of independent watchmakers to whom you can send your watch for servicing.   As with any used mechanical item, a fault can unexpectedly develop at any time and although I do not warrant the watch against future faults I will always try to help you, including sourcing parts at any time.  I have helped people who have contacted me several years after they have purchased a watch from me.

I provide comprehensive details of my watches, including very clear photographs taken with a high resolution macro lens which shows detail not visible to the naked eye.  I also invite you to ask questions if there is anything else you need to know.  I cannot provide a refund if you decide your watch is too small or you do not like it for some other reason.   Do please bear in mind that your watch has been used so will not be as new.   Also please take care to consider the dimensions of the watch case as if it is a gentlemens’ vintage watch; they were often made smaller than contemporary watches, particularly Art Deco style watches with rectangular cases.
